Screeching Weasel – Beat is on the Brat – Review

Screeching Weasel

Beat is on the Brat (Panic Button/Lookout!)
by Scott Hefflon

This Ramones tribute, based on a typo on the first pressing of the Ramones record from 1976, has been out of print for five years. And now that Ben Weasel has his own label, all of Screeching Weasel‘s out of print material is being re-issued (as he himself says in his seemingly mandatory liner/explanatory notes) “for better or worse.” It’s straight-forward, for die-hards only, and does little to further anyone’s opinion of an already acknowledged “necessary punk band.” But the songs were recorded during the Weasel, Vapid, Panic, and Jughead daze, and the last four songs are from the Bark Like a Dog sessions (originally released on ’97’s Formula 27 EP) and feature Joe Queer on a coupla songs.
