Despise You – West Side Horizons – Review

Despise You

West Side Horizons (Pessimiser)
by Scott Hefflon

Remember Suicidal Tendencies’ classic first record? Despise You have it right down to the skeleton drawings on their fan’s shirts and jackets. Remember when you used to stare at those photos for hours and wish you were old enough to be part of ST’s gang and terrorize neighborhoods skating around and being cool? (I have no idea what they did and I’ve never been to Venice Beach, so there it is.) Despise You may have more grindcore and sludgy guitars then ol’ ST, but who wants to nickpit? Hell, at least it’s fast’n’furious, most songs barely cracking 30 seconds, and there’re 62 songs of pain, hate, and violence to enjoy. From the Theologian-affiliated label that brought us Excruciating Terror, Grief, and other fine horrors, Despise You have carved their niche with a bent, rusty knife. They even do a disgusting cover of Possessed’s “Burning in Hell” from Seven Churches, and if that doesn’t mean anything to you, that’s your fault, not mine.
