Relapse Sampler – Review

Relapse Records

Sampler Spring 1999 (Relapse)
by Tim Den

Remember when Relapse Records was just the little brother of Nuclear Blast? I do. And it not only comforts me to see this little brother grow into a well-built adult, it warms my heart knowing that it did so with the help of many talented artists. With a roster that includes Neurosis, Soilent Green, Nile, Incantation, Amorphis, Today Is The Day, and Dillinger Escape Plan, how can Relapse be anything but quality? Specializing in the noisy and heavy, Relapse today reigns as the top source for twisted and disgustingly brutal metal. Not just because the aforementioned artists continue to release some of the best distortioned music this side of hell, but because newcomers like Exhumed (and old-schoolers Regurgitate) have contributed more than their part to keep traditional grindcore alive. For those that miss the early days of Napalm Death and Carcass, Relapse is the only place to turn for top-notch sickening grinds. And with others like Nasum, Morgion, Nebula, Bongzilla, Nightstick, Benumb, Mortician, and Agoraphobic Nosebleed on their side, you know Relapse is only gonna get better and better.
