Rye Coalition – The Lipstick Game – Review

Rye Coalition

The Lipstick Game (Gern Blansten)
by Tim Den

This is what would happen if Fugazi took their B-sides from Red Medicine and remixed them with more balls than a Spanish bullfighter. I say B-sides not because Rye Coalition writes low quality songs, but because their brand of experimental aggression and yelling only pop up at certain times in Fugazi’s wide spectrum of dabblings. Rye Coalition’s brand of DC indie rock is some of the best I’ve heard, branching out from heavy stompers to rock’n’roll ala The Make-Up. With solid production and a very live sound, The Lipstick Game could fill a dance floor and please the mod squad by the bar.
