Surf Monsters – Review

Surf Monster

(Del-Fi)
by Scott Hefflon

I can’t tell good surf from bad surf, klassic surf from progressive surf, but I do know enough to trust Del-Fi. While this stuff seems kinda tired (Pulp Fiction was almost five years ago, and the genre has been reverbing in the dark corners of the culture for what, 40 years?), there’s perhaps room for another comp of the greats arranged by the knowledgeable masters of contemporary and forgotten archival surf material. Some might say the wave has crashed already, but seeing as it’s an enjoyable listen and a history lesson (Del-Fi always providing great liner notes), if you have a liking for surf, Del-Fi is your pipeline. Bands appearing: Man or Astroman?, The Bomboras, Satan’s Pilgrims, The Original Safaris, Huevos Rancheros, Dave Myers & the Surftones, The Centurions, The Cocktail Preachers, The Sentinals, Barbacoa, The Tiki Tones, The Dynotones, The Space Cossacks, The Impacts, The Sub-Mersians, The Lively Ones, and Powerjive.
