30 Foot Fall – Ever Revolving, Never Evolving – Review

30 Foot Fall

Ever Revolving, Never Evolving (Nitro)
by Scott Hefflon

30footFall useta be on Fearless, now they’re on Nitro. At first it made no sense, seeing as Nitro has a pretty distinct identity (excluding AFI, which I do every chance I get). But 30footFall is picking up where Guttermouth left off. They’re fast, they’re irreverent, and they make fun of themselves as much as everything around them. And seeing as they’re from Texas as opposed to SoCal, there’s a different slant musically as well as lyrically. “Fuck Ya’ll, We’re from Texas” is pretty indicative of that, eh? They cover The Cure’s “Just Like Heaven,” not that they credit it anywhere, but neither do they mention whoever produced this noisy, snarling mess. Of course, I wouldn’t want this on my resume either, cuz the drums do, as joked about, sound like trash cans. So OK, here’s the thing: 30footFall is a good band, a damn fine show and all, but this CD is sloppy, poorly produced (not that everything has to sound Fat), and coulda used a second opinion (as in, “Um, guys? That song doesn’t really go the distance, ya know? Seeing as your songs are so goddamn easy to write, why not take 10 minutes and write a different one?”). That said, keep an eye on these guys cuz, somewhere in there, there IS a good band.
