Anti-Heros – Underneath the Underground – Review

Anti-Heros

Underneath the Underground (GMM)
by Scott Hefflon

Ya gotta love when people get it all backasswards. Rancid’s Lars Frederiksen produces this wondrous slab of gritty street-punk, and bands such as Dropkick Murphys are bound to be mentioned in more than a few reviews of the new Anti-Heros record, Underneath the Underground. Thing is, there probably wouldn’t be a DKM, perhaps not a Rancid, and bands like The Ducky Boys and The Trouble and their ilk’d never’ve been born, much less see the light of day without Anti-Heros and GMM. So there it is. Despite having cred up the wazoo and been dubbed THE original American Oi! band, their records’ve been released by Taang! and GMM, which is kinda like preaching to the converted. Hey punk! Dig a little deeper, huh? This is the origin of much that you cherish, and unlike a lotta old-time fuckers who shoulda stayed in retirement, these guys are as vital as ever. Do yourself a favor…
