Aphrodite – Review

Aphrodite

(V2)
by Lex Marburger

How refreshing, a drum’n’bass guy who wants people to actually dance to his tracks. Don’t get me wrong, I kinda like the freaky-creepy doom bass & frantic, schizophrenic beats, but after a while, the whole “I’m more serious than you” thing gets tiresome. So why not get up & move? And that’s what Aphrodite does. The self-titled release flits about, but with a backbeat that’s easy to follow when hyped up on the latest chemical combination. Not to say he’s simple, tho’. Sax, seagulls, and sequencers blend together seamlessly, not to mention grabbing the “For The Love of Money” bassline on “B.M Funkster” to make a completely ass-stomping mix. To top it all off, he “covers” Seals & Croft’s “Summer Breeze,” reinventing the tune so you can actually listen to it. Now that’s good.
