Austin Powers – More Music from The Spy Who Shagged Me – Review

Austin Powers

More Music from The Spy Who Shagged Me (Maverick)
by Scott Hefflon

The first soundtrack to the second Austin Powers movie was filled by household-name bands doing songs that really had little to do with the time period and style of the movie (yet probably sold a lot of copies for that very reason), but More Music From is the real goods. Even if they’re new songs, they have the good graces to sound like they could’ve been written much earlier. In other words, this is the soundtrack you want to buy. And yes, it has a version of Madonna’s song on it, but it’s the last one so you can skip it if you want (hell, I like it, so don’t feel bad). Most of these songs need no introduction, and if you’ve seen the movie (which you should’ve), each will bring back the visuals it accompanied. While rare, that’s what’s supposed to happen. More Music From opens with “Austin Meets Felicity,” a dialogue snippet that’s sure to stick in the head of any guy who thinks Heather Graham is the hottest thing since fire, which, I think, is any guy with a pulse. Following is “Am I Sexy?” by Lords of Acid, “I’m a Believer” by The Monkees, “Magic Carpet Ride” by Steppenwolf, “American Woman” by The Guess Who, “Get the Girl” by the Bangles, “Bachelor Pad” by Fantastic Plastic Machine, “Let’s Get it On” by Marvin Gaye, “Crash!” by The Propellerheads, “Time of the Season” by The Zombies, “Dr. Evil” by They Might Be Giants, “The Austin Powers Shagaphonic Medley” by George S. Clinton, and “Beautiful Stranger (Calderone Mix)” by Madonna. While the first soundtrack to the second movie sucked (not to mention slaughtered a couple classics captured here in their original and only form); to More Music From I say, “Yeah, baby!”
