Fastmusic Kills – Review

Fastmusic Kills

(Fastmusic)
by Scott Hefflon

Starting as a MediaDisc company (some kinda Internet-linked CD-ROM), Fastmusic has, in less than a year, not only hooked up with such high profile comps as Warped Music and Punk-O-Rama, they’ve signed eight or so punk bands and developed an identity as a label. Not bad for a year’s work, huh? A few of the bands are familiar, and those that aren’t follow suit, so at least you know what yer getting: Good ol’ dirty-sounding pop-punk, the kinda stuff the bigger underground labels polish for mass consumption. But here it is in original, messy form, warts and all. A few of the songs are unreleased (always a plus), and a few will raise an eyebrow and have soon-to-be-fans scouring the Net for more info. Fastmusic didn’t bother to include band addresses (always a bitch), but you can probably check out their website, www.fastmusic.com, for more info. Fast bands on the warpath: Cooter x2, Sidecar x2, The Sharpshooters (yes, it’s DBL’s Dave Smalley on vox), Latex Generation, The Frownies x2, The Bar Feeders x2, Man Without Plan x2, and Super Hi-5 x2.
