Beefcake – Rejected – Review

Beefcake

Rejected (Fearless)
by Scott Hefflon

Fans of Guttermouth and The Vandals who’re looking for a younger band to be kind of offensive, fast, snotty and, well, punk, should check out Beefcake. While not intellectual or possessing the musical prowess of either of the aforementioned, hell, Beefcake are straight-forward, untamed, and fresh. For whatever that’s worth… The production’s pretty bad, but for a debut, we’ve all heard worse. And if you buy this now, you can claim to’ve been into these guys since before they were really any good. So on top of thought-provoking ditties like “Bob Saget (I Hate You)” and “My Dominatrix,” there’s a cover of Cheap Trick’s “Surrender” to remind us of the demystifying ethos of punk: Anyone can do this.
