Kid Brother Collective – Never Trust Yourself – Review

Kid Brother Collective

Never Trust Yourself (Doom Nibbler)
by Tim Den

When poppy emo is done right, it’s downright miraculous. It makes you crave the feeling of having a barrel of vinegar in your chest. It sheds light upon your depression by healing your wounds with sentimental melodies. Drawing on bands who are capable of such impact, Jimmy Eat World and Joshua in particular, Kid Brother Collective is a downward spiral that you love to ride. They play poppy emo rock at its simplest: no tricks or surprises, just honest pain and poetry. They follow the formula of “sometimes loud, sometimes quiet” to a T, and by the sound of this three-song EP, they’re not gonna have a hard time winning over the genre’s sweater-vested youths. I hope they do, because they deserve far more attention than some other popular, young, but less-talented acts (no mentioning of names needed).
