Ilya – Poise is the Great Architect – Review

Ilya

Poise is the Great Architect (Second Nature)
by Tim Den

A pensive shadow made up of The Album Leaf’s ghostly piano ticklings, Portishead’s drugged ambience, and National Skyline’s forelorn electronica, Ilya are succeeding at what so many desperate indie bands are tripping over: The combination of sultry female vocals backed by minimalistic, tasteful arrangements. While comparisons to Björk might be stretching it, vocalist Blanca Rojas does instill the same feeling of sexy suicide like the best of ’em. Bass drums buzzing like giant bees, creepy threads of melodies criss-crossing like frosty spiders weaving a web… better lock away the razor blades.
