Training for Utopia
Throwing a Wrench in the American Music Machine (Solid State)
by Tim Den
You can claim that this is the counterpart to Coalesce and Today Is The Day all you want, but you’re wrong. Training for Utopia is noisecore with no inspiration, recorded in a mud pit, and layered with as much depth perception as a blind man. It drags along, never making the slightest attempt to bring drama or life into the staleness. You can tell that they tried to cram as many “weird noises” and “scary sounds” into every section, but it just ends up sounding desperate. And muddy. Heavy for heavy’s sake, noisy but with no deeper understanding of its function. Just plain bad.
