Amon Amarth – The Crusher – Review

Amon Amarth

The Crusher (Metal Blade)
by Tim Den

The Viking mythology-obsessed Amon Amarth is back, once again recording an album full of At The Gates guitar sounds, pseudo-Carcass melodic riffs, and rusty gears-sounding metal at Abyss Studios. Rougher production-wise and less traditional metal-sounding than their Swedish counterparts, Amon Amarth nonetheless churn out weighty material to fly pirate flags to.

If In Flames, Hammerfall, and Dark Tranquillity are all becoming too predictable for you, The Crusher is a nice change of pace that – although still distinctly Swedish – offers decent variation on the tried and true formula.
