Produced by Devin Townsend with Gene Hoglan on drums. Them’s the perks. Evidently, Just Cause is former Punchdrunk Patrick Beaudoin’s project, and he recruited Gene, Dev, and guitarist Ricardo Forrester. All the straight-forward death ranting and technical chugging/rampaging of Strapping Young Lad, but with none of the huh?-breaks, the rapid-blinking “how the fuck did they play that?” segments, and only the most rudimentary of Devin’s production genius. Consider it dumbed-down SYL or, whatever, brutal straight-up death with slightly novel production and little melody or hook to be found. Or don’t consider it at all and simply realize how awesome Strapping Young Lad is and hope they release another neck-snapping record soon.
