16 – Today Is The Day – Zodiac Dreaming – Review

16/Today Is The Day

Zodiac Dreaming (Trash Art)
by Paul Lee

Tearing open this split album are San Fran’s 16 who grind and groove their way like a latter-day Prong (during their Force Fed era days) or Unsane. 16’s three tunes of post-hardcore sludge are a good introduction to these seasoned dudes and piqued my curiosity about their other albums released on Bacteria Sour and Theologian.

The maniacs of Today Is The Day offer up two songs that will just barely quench the thirst. “Invincible” is a seven-and-a-half-minute journey into Steve Austin’s creative, roaring hell, but then slides into a beautiful (believe it or not) piano-based section almost three minutes into the song. “Breadwinner” is a minute-and-a-half, mid-paced trip that has Austin spitting out a list of intoxicating substances. I can’t wait to see what they come up with next.
