Sorta what Sinergy promised but didn’t quite deliver, Lullacry are kinda like ’80s Heart (melodic hard-on rock, dripping with female harmonies and bold, powerful melodies belted-out) with modern-day production and sizzling guitarwork (think In Flames, Sentenced, or better yet, Sentenced side project Poisonblack). For those who secretly thought Bonnie Tyler’s “Holding Out for a Hero” was pretty bad-ass, here’s yer chance to get a new CD to bridge the gap between Pat Benatar and nü metal guitar power.

Sure, there are guitar solos and fills, but it’s not wanky or shred, it’s tasteful riffs slathered generously around hip-gyrating stripper beats. Some might curl a hipster lip at that, but I had a couple Suicide Girls rockin’ out to this during a photoshoot, so you can bitch at coffee shops or vegan restaurants all ya fuckin’ want.

Opener “Alright Tonight” is so pop metal, it sounds like an anime theme song. And from there, while there are a couple ballads, there are a few tunes that’d appeal to fans of Drain STH, Bif Naked, The Gathering’s early metal material, and I dunno, fans of commercial hard rock like Ozzy and stuff. Even fans of Marilyn Manson, Type O Negative, and the Gothier side of metal should get into it, cuz the band’s Finnish, and therefore tastefully dark.
