The Pieces – Review

The Pieces

The Pieces‘ brand of ’90s AlterNation, quirky guitar pop not only makes me yearn for those golden days of yore, but makes me think that maybe the good days aren’t completely behind us yet. With a debut that owes as much to touring mate Evan Dando as Billy Joel’s hooks, songs like opener “That’s Why It Is” and first single “Lauren” have indie rock’s dirty guitars and The Band’s wide-eyed embrace of pop meet at the crossroad of songwriting’s essence: Solid melodies, rollickin’ beats, and a whole lotta fun.
