Roy – Big City Sin and Small Town Redemption – Review

Roy

Big City Sin and Small Town Redemption (Fueled by Ramen)
by Tim Den

Sounding more defined and refined than on their last EP (Tacomatose), Roy obviously benefited greatly from their tour with The Weakerthans. A sense of growth permeates this long-player, as the band gets ever closer to becoming more than just ex-metallers playing folky guitar pop. Somewhere between later-era The Promise Ring and The Replacements sits Big City Sin and Small Town Redemption, as jangly Strats help the narrator combat anecdotes of sexual identity and radio takeover. Worth your ears.
