Karma and Effect (Wind Up)
by Scott Hefflon

Making fun of this is too obvious. It’s active rock, or heavy radio rock, or whatever they call this stuff since it was proven that Creed and Nickleback could be played endlessly on the radio, and not only did people not rise up, smash their radios, and set fire to their local radio stations for ignoring good bands and poisoning their minds with garbage that makes sitcom plots seem ingenius, they bought it. En masse. The singer of Seether has an emotional, manly voice, and probably a full head of cool hair and bright, shiny eyes. Music like this is dangerous because it’s so NOT dangerous. It’s like Nirvana and Alice in Chains, without all those pesky sins like drugs, personal problems, and individual thought. Strong-arm conformity passed off as rock music. Anyone who thinks this is thoughtful and brooding is a moron, but there are a lot of morons in this world, as has been proven over and over again. It’s the masquerade that carefully-crafted and mom-approved stuff like this is rock music that eats me up. This is as artistic and creative and soulful as a fast food burger, and just as bad for you.
