Let me start off by saying I’m a huge horror movie buff, and a confirmed headbanger. The darker the imagery, the better. My idea of a good time is throwing on Haxan: Witchcraft Through the Ages, muting the sound, and tossing some Brujeria in the CD player. I welcome the barrage of disturbing shit passing before my eyes and into my ears. I’m a tuff guy. I know it.

But Leviathan‘s Tentacles of Whorror is too much. This is straight up EVIL music! Seriously! I simply will not play this disc once the sun goes down, and neither should you. Maybe I’ve seen Evil Dead one too many times, but I seriously think this dude put some kinda demon conjuring messages in his music! Spooky.

Leviathan isn’t really a band. All the instruments are played by one guy named Wrest. Musically, it kills. It’s grungy, sludgy, full-on black metal. Things segue nicely from the heavier tunes full of ultra-fuzzy guitar, melodic bass lines, echo heavy banshee wails, and blastbeat drumming to the more quiet, atmospheric compositions that virtually define the term “Goth.” There are even a few doomy, Black Sabbath-type grooves here and there.

It’s not for the faint of heart, but if you think you’ve got the guts, check this out. Now that I’ve done my job reviewing this disc, I’m gonna burn it, sprinkle the ashes with holy water, and bury it as far away from my pad as I can.
