Summon – Fallen – Review

Fallen (Moribund)
by Scott Hefflon

This kills! The stack of metal wallets I sift through, trying to be fair and preview, is daunting. Everyone thinks it must be great to hear everything, but 50 metal skinnies in a row takes forever to listen to, and 95% of it is shredding power, no individual style or identity. Problematic, because the bands are tight as a homophobe’s butthole, but it’s just a big blur of interchangeable pounding and shrieking with scary song titles, illegible logos, and high school cover art. Along comes Summon, and while it falls for every cliché in the metal book, it kills. All the rest pale in comparison. This is what they strive for, and this is what they fall far shy of. Shredding necro-thrashy death with all the right ingredients in all the right ratios. Damn near perfect.
