Live Live In Paris (Liquor and Poker)
by Scott Hefflon

The title isn’t a typo, I guess, it’s the verb followed by the adjective. Whatever. No surprise here, it’s a live Backyard Babies CD, recorded at a sold-out show in Paris. These guys are the kings of Swedish sleaze glam, and while most of us cherish the near-perfect Total 13 (as great and song-by-song reliable as Appetite for Destruction, no exaggeration needed), this live release draws from it and the two CDs never released in America, so ya got yer faves performed live, and the best tracks from the CDs ya never got. A fine live band, accurate and energetic, and pro as fuck, no teenage newbies here. A fine tide-me-over until the boyz release something else that smokes, if they ever do. Hell, if Total 13 is like Appetite, it’s perfectly acceptable for the band to never reach such heights again, they still nailed it once, which is more than 99% of bands can ever say. No one hit wonder, they’re a one album wonder, which is far rarer a feat. So yeah, buy Total 13, absolutely, and get this too if ya got a couple bucks change.
