By Blood Alone – Eternally – Review

Eternally
by Scott Hefflon

Having slogged it out in different states, under different names, By Blood Alone came together in Maine, and the chemistry between members is apparent. While still finding their legs as a band (some awful lryics and specific passages that seem to drag on long after their point was made), the band have the raw ability and experience to focus and come back with something better than this four-song demo. The opener, “Every Night,” is evidently the radio single, yet it’s the one that opens with the worst lyrics and cheesiest keyboard sound, so I gravitate toward closer “Deny Yourself” (which builds nicely over six minutes, which is probably why it’s not a single candidate). The galloping metal guitars and Deep Purple keys are a little better, and the chorus is catchy. Give ’em time and support to get it together, er, and decide whether they wanna be an dark, ethereal band with tender, wispy vocals, or a dark metal band with powerful melodies and monster guitars, cuz they’re kinda half of each at the moment, which doesn’t allow them to do either whole-heartedly.
