Punk: Attitude – Review

Admittedly, I was a bit skeptical about this double disc history of punk. I’ve seen some band MTV specials, and once, for a school project, sorted through countless worthless books about the history of punk, so I’ve come to take anything labeled “punk” with a pound of salt. That, and you should see some of the DVDs that get sent to Lollipop

But I liked this DVD. Well, most of it… The main attraction, Don Lett’s documentary, was thorough and enjoyable. All the special features sucked, unless you think some repeat footage, L.A. people talking about how great they are, and some still menu’s with “where are they now” and “punk family trees” are non-sucky. Interviews flood the films, and gawd can Henry Rollins talk a LOT. The live footage is definitely the best part – the most entertaining – except that during a lot of the clips, a different song will be dubbed over, so it really just fucks with your head.

When I said this film is thorough, I meant it. Everything from MC5 up until Blink-182, and all the cultural aspects that were spawned from this all-encompassing movement. The fashion, the safety pins, the crude language, and the ‘zines. The DVD itself comes with it’s own issue of Sniffin’ Glue. Now THAT’s snazzy.
