State of Insurgency (Old School Metal)
by Scott Hefflon

Thrash probably isn’t supposed to be cute, but this reminds me of the first handfulla songs I wrote when I was 17, getting all “metal thrashing mad.” Just to date myself, this was the heyday, kids, like late ’80s, the days of Anthrax, Nuclear Assault (S.O.D., if you were daring enough), Dark Angel, Death Angel, Kreator, Testament, Exodus, and plenty of others. So, like, this reminds me of being a teenager, writing my first songs, most of them completely derivative of what I listened to, but not knowing any better cuz I was young, dumb, and fulla cum. Hexen? Yeah, sure, they smoke. So do a lot of bands in the Thrash Revival. How do you differentiate the wheat from the chaff? (That means the useful from the filler.) I don’t, you do. Go check them out on MySpace or something. That’s what those clunky-ass sites are there for.
