As you might imagine from the film that spawned the quotables “Gobble, Gobble, motherf#%@er” and “Nice tits, b!tch,” Thankskilling is a low budget movie that’s really more of an attempt at comedy than it is a horror film, even if it fancies itself as a combination of the two. Not that you were probably expecting any genuine horror here, anyways, but you probably shouldn’t get your hopes up for much decent comedy either, since it’s too self-aware to create any of the “we’re actually trying” laughs generated by the likes of Troll 2 or The Room. That doesn’t make it a failure, though: As a straight-up exploitation cheapie, it delivers well enough for its 66 minutes (more if you watch it again with the audio commentary, where you can learn the origin story of why the director decided to open with a close-up on a nipple). Jocks, nerds, fatties, sluts, misogyny, gore, nudity: All the checklist items are attended to, along with some decent curveballs like a horny, homicidal turkey that occasionally wears a dead skin mask. It’s for fans of trash, to be sure, but it’s definitely not at the bottom of the heap.
