Man, I was hoping that the Faroese folk metallers in Tyr were going to have some badass music to back up the badass cover art of their latest, Valkyrja. Luckily, they deliver, and “Blood of Heroes” is one of their best tracks, with a tough yet anthemic quality that recalls the golden age of Hammerfall. The new album is high concept, focusing on a Viking warrior who hopes his glory on the battlefield will earn him an audience with the goddess Freya, and moreso takes a big picture look at how men perceive the women in their lives.
