She might not know from God (or much else), but Bodega’s Nikki Belfiglio sure knows how to sing-scat with the best of them on the band’s pop-punk slayer “Statuette on the Console” off sophomore effort Broken Equipment. These talented anti-capitalists (shush) have been compared to The B-52s, but I like them better. “Statuette on the Console” and its punky speed is unique to their catalogue, and it really is catchy (don’t listen to it too many times or you’ll ruin it), but the two records show a bit more diversity. Both Belfiglio and lead singer Ben Hozie have something. Whatever she does or doesn’t know, Belfiglio is a rock’n’roll polyglot: the song was released in nine languages.
