Youngish Aussies Ambulance release new single “Oscar the Cat” off the band’s first EP, Rush. Like much decent music these days, it has a ’90s alt-rock vibe. The power trio make a ton of noise, not adhering to any indie-rock bullshit. Though there are some anodyne, radio-friendly moments on the EP, when the band plays to its strengths: heavy guitars and straight-forward hard rock, they do well. While not revolutionary, “Oscar the Cat” has some good moments, especially the Seattle-charged opening and ending. Overall, surprisingly professional heavy rock from a bunch of kids from Down Under.
