Jane’s Addiction – Imminent Redemption – Music Stream

Jane’s Addiction

“Imminent Redemption”
release date: 7/24/24
by Scott Deckman

Two great bands who’ve underperformed since they’ve gotten back together, the Pixies and Jane’s Addiction, released new songs on the same day, and neither exactly changes their fortunes. (To be fair, Charles Thompson’s revamped band has released some very good music, but a lot of duds). Jane’s Addiction, of course, have had as many breakups and hiatuses as leader Perry Farrell has had plastic surgeries. “Imminent Redemption” wants to be good, and almost is, but the amount of chaos in the song is undermining. Dave Navarro does sound like Dave Navarro though, and Perry’s Perry, begging redemption “from the coca fields of Colombia.” He still likes his wine, though. This is the first new music released with original bassist Eric Avery since 1990, and he plays a familiar baseline to open things up. Oddly, the song seems like it’s over too fast, despite all the noise going on. The video is a blending of old and new Jane’s footage.
