Charm School
“Without a Doubt”
Debt Forever
release date: 01/24/25
by Scott Deckman
Charm School play dissonant, spiky rock and roll with a touch of no wave on debut Debt Forever. The only thing is, single “Without a Doubt” sounds nothing like the rest of the album; instead, it floats in the seas of straight-up modern indie rock. It’s actually quite good, with the band borrowing from whom I can’t place. The song features a slow-paced melody, smart use of percussion, and is just dreamy enough to make the whole thing feel like home. If home is a post-punk weirdo den. “Don’t let me run out of money” is chorus of the nascent year, mainly for its greater truth.
