If you’re a dinosaur from the ’90s (uhm, uhm), you should remember Tracy Bonham for, if nothing else, “Mother Mother,” the hit alt-rock single from her 1996 debut album, The Burdens of Being Upright. Her sophomore effort, 2000’s Down Here, was pretty good, and here, Bonham has reimagined “Jumping Bean” from that record. This version is a slow-builder featuring a familiar, menacing guitar line turned up loud in a less-is-more stratagem. Backed by two jazz musicians, her distinct voice is in fine form. And the woman has a thing for beans, as she once again namedrops “navy bean” (this time twice), the title of the second track off her debut, in the song. The classically trained violinist and pianist went to Boston’s Berklee College of Music, after all.
