I’m familiar with the name Caroline Rose because at least one area indie station plays her music, though I never paid much attention until I heard “Yip Yip Yow.” Rose started off with Americana-type music and graduated to indie pop. After an extensive Spotify sojourn, I can’t say I liked most of my stay, but the artistry is there. Her last full-length, The Art of Forgetting, is Rose’s most interesting album. “Yip Yip Yow” is quite the pivot. A mix of punk and Americana, it’s very catchy, once you get used to the vocals — at first, I thought it was a cartoon character singing. Rose will be touring with Modest Mouse this fall.
