The Blurry Stars

“Tidal Wave”
Release Date: March 27, 2026
By Scott Deckman

The Blurry Stars, a California three-piece, have a lot of potential. Their new release, “Tidal Wave,” isn’t quite as immediate as “This Boy’s Got to Get Paid” off last year’s EP Dark Times, but it’s a grower. The band calls themselves garage rock, which is partly right. They also have a heavy power pop side, with an emphasis on heavy; think cult fave Superdrag, who managed to maintain an indie versus commercial sound with big guitars. There are even Local H “John the Baptist Blues”-adjacent tones coming out of singer Sean Alan’s Stratocaster, who himself sounds like the son of Mac McCaughan. Am I rambling on here? Ask Robert Plant. The Blurry Stars have a chance to be good. Listen to them as an amoeba.
