Swedish garage pop, catchy without being formulaic. Fans of Soundtrack of Our Lives and the Hellacopters who wanna expand into well-written pop will dig it.
Ann Shenton of Add N to (X) and friends. A few actual songs here, with weird noises juggled, not as a crutch, but cuz juggling while tapping your feet is fun.
Slick indie rock from L.A. fronted by a hottie from Denmark. Thick bass, like trendy indie rock, and dancey drum beats and mild electronic, but not overdone.
New wave was always weird, lots of gender-bending, and the drum sounds sucked and some of the keyboard sounds grated yer nerves. So this is pretty accurate.
Like Jim’s Big Ego, and King Missile IXX or whatever they’re on now, Butterscott is dippy ditties about bubblegum, jellybeans, Store 24, and molesting puppies.
Future Farmer puts out good indie rock I always kinda like, but figure Magnet, No Depression, Splendid, and In Music We Trust are slobbering all over, so I kinda never bother to review. Good songwriting, good vocals, good production.
When it’s sexy cabaret, it’s nice, but not as nice and dark and smoky as Firewater and a handfulla others, and nor nearly as deep and rich as Rasputina.
Veterans of Lowercase, Sebadoh, and Red Aunts. They pen the clever lyrics and the hooks, but they also like a little feedback and drone and anti-tune bashing.
Squatters who can’t write songs, can’t play the shitty songs they write, can’t get their lives together, and who are applauded for being a bunch of losers.
