Greenhaven – The Last Powerful Second – Review October 13, 2006 A trimmed-down hard rock that’s got a few grunge-era goodies tucked away, as well as a Clutch record or two, and maybe an opening gig for Fu Manchu.
Bible of the Devil – Brutality, Majesty, Eternity – Review October 13, 2006 Sleazy, duel lead guitar spitting, Motörhead-worshipping, slightly goofy brand of heavy metal that’s loud, brash, cocky, and not always in good taste.
Cardinale – 31:13 – Review October 6, 2006 “Heavy” as in the emotional, if not bludgeoning sense. Maybe less drone and drift, linking it to a couple older era’s “progressive” rock works.
Bullets and Octane – In The Mouth of The Young – Review September 22, 2006 A neo-glam band who sport eyeliner and tattoos, use the word punk to mean fast, and you’ll dig it, but always be a little suspicious of how honest it is.
The Shocker – Up Your Ass Tray – Review September 22, 2006 Jennifer Finch from L7’s new group. It’s a blast of punk and new wave flavored rock with gritty vocals and ridiculous, over the top lyrics.
Void Generator – We Have Found The Space – Review September 1, 2006 They’ve gotten A LOT better. They were cool, but didn’t really offer much to sink yer teeth into, all about the fuzz and not the tunes.
Vatos Locos – Fortune & Fun – Review September 1, 2006 They rock hard and fast, but not as fast as, say, Zeke. Bars, girls, shitty paychecks, and Chevelles all find their way into song titles.
The Deen – Review September 1, 2006 Unsigned band from Germany, but solid Danzig-inspired riff rock. A crooner to take note of, riffs to remember, and TUNES you’ll actually remember.
The Chelsea Smiles – Thirty Six Hours Later – Review September 1, 2006 Signed to Capitol for a stint, toured with Social D, featuring Todd Youth (Murphy’s Law, D-Generation, Danzig, Motörhead), now calling Acetate home.
The Blakhiv – Any Way She Wants It – Review September 1, 2006 Glorious messy rock’n’roll from Iceland. Vital and sloppy and fun and chaotic and noisy, a mere five quick jerks and the job is done.
