I’ve never cared much for most of Bane’s songs, but they sometimes surprise me. Like the end of “Swan Song,” the part with the group shouts and a vocal cameo.
The sticker on the cover warned me, but I checked out the hip-hop side project of Coheed and Cambria drummer Josh Eppard anyway. It’s as awful as it sounds.
The metal edge is chamfered by dramatic soaring Goth rock progressions and honed with Sabbath crunch. Spacey electronic squeaks put a modern stamp on the piece.
Here’s a band that’s firmly entrenched in the hardcore ethos of scream and blast away, but is happy to mix in a healthy portion of ’70s arena rock riff-o-mania.
