Although Black City ends with a song called “Wild and Crazy,” DOLL aren’t; they sound like The Strokes on downers, or a more “serious” version of The Hives.
As you can probably guess, AFI is a big influence here. But I’ll give the Devil his due: If you can get past the silliness, some of these songs aren’t bad.
The Bad Religion harmonies are tired, the “melodic” post-black metal singing’s just silly, and the music is too busy chasing Meshuggah and At The Gates.
1977-style punk that’s a little bit pop and a little bit rock’n’roll. Not too fast or too slow; not too aggressive or too wussy; not too basic or too tricky.
