The Strangest Things is unfortunately as bland as its predecessor was glorious: All pretty pastel colors, Plain Jane-ing the songwriting right into Blandsville.
The Strokes are neither complete wastes of music nor saviors of rock. They are just a band who are very good at reproducing some of their favorite artists.
Staying on the heavy side even when slowing down and getting breathy (more Tool than Top 40), and while tirading a bit, never shrieking uncontrollably.
Aside from the formulaic radio non-hits (loud/soft/loud/soft) and girlie ballads, there are a couple songs that’ll stick in yer head after a listen or two.
If you liked their past albums, you’ll be just as pleased with this one. It’s indie rock with the usual fuzz tone guitars, shifting tempos, and buildups.
