Mocha Java – Review

Mocha Java

by Scott Hefflon

Good to the last drop, Mocha Java is pouring it on, and New England is really lapping it up. Their tasty blend of blues, jazz, funk, bluegrass, and folk (not to mention a dash of psychedelia) is a delicious switch from our regular brand. The band recently released their single “Minutes Tic Away,” with “Seasons” on the flipside. Nearly 500 (or, five hundred, for the word-worriers) copies have sold to Javaheads in the area, and they’re starving for the full dosage that is now being recorded.

Mocha Java, being the versatile bean-heads they are, (just ask them, they’ll tell you!) often play acoustic sets dubbed “Mocha Decaf” as well as percolating electric shows. The band has a wide range of originals, as well as stylized covers of Dylan to Phish (you knew that one was coming!), Marley to Zeppelin. “Java Jive” is a tight, but not restrictive, fun, but not silly, professional, and yet humorous. They’re based in Worcester and not ashamed to admit it.
