Sexual Astrology – Review

Sexual Astrology

by Marlene Masini Rathgeb (Avon Books, 1993)
by Laura Kallio

Don’t let the title fool you. This is not a book about sex. (Keep reading anyway.) It’s a book that focuses on gender-based and elemental astrology. It is therefore a book that is most useful after one has a fairly firm grip on basic astrology. Once you do, you know that each sign has a gender, male or female, and that each sign also falls under an elemental category: fire, earth, water or air. As with Goodman’s Love Signs, Rathgeb pairs up various gender and elemental combinations. She delves even deeper by including a discussion on the influence Moon Signs have. (If you don’t know what a Moon Sign is read the introduction to Sun Signs. Suffice it to say, they’re essential.) She’ll pair up a Feminine Sun Sign/Masculine Moon Sign man with a Masculine Sun Sign/Feminine Moon Sign woman, for example. She also gets into all the various elemental combinations. One thing Rathgeb does that Goodman didn’t (not her fault since she was writing thirty years ago) is include specific male/female combinations as well as female/female, male/male combinations. (One more step for political correctitude.)

Probably the most valuable tool this book offers is a chart which enables you to find out what your Moon Sign is. All you’ve got to know is the exact day and time of your birth. The rest is in the stars.
