Roadsaw – “Fancy Pants” / “Handed You Your Ass” – Review

Roadsaw

“Fancy Pants” / “Handed You Your Ass” (Curve of the Earth)
by Joey Ammo

“I just wasn’t having fun in Strip Mind anymore,” explains Roadsaw bassist/vocalist Tim Katz. “Going through the major label meat grinder really sucked. Roadsaw is a band made of friends who want to have a good time. We got into music to meet girls, drink beer, and have fun, not for egos and politics. We wanted to get back to that.”

Fun is exactly what Roadsaw is all about. Katz, drummer Craig Riggs and guitarist Steve Malone manage to roll early Kiss, Sabbath and Clash influences head-on into the neighborhood of Kyuss and Supersuckers. This is a true gearhead’s muscle rig tearing up new streets of post-rock and roll. Watching them perform “Fancy Pants,” their new 7″ single from meteoric label Curve of the Earth, at their Linwood Grille record release party (where Alvan Long presented them with a hilariously oversized million dollar check), it became obvious these guys live for “all that is rock,” as Katz put it. Ex-Strip Mind bandmate Billy O’Malley will be producing their upcoming CD for Curve, while the band continues to appear on some of the strongest bills in town. If you remember the Bags as fondly as we do, I’d suggest taking Roadsaw for a test drive soon.
