Hinge – Accidental Meeting of the Minds – Review

Hinge

Accidental Meeting of the Minds (Pavement)
by Sheril Stanford

From the sound of Accidental Meeting of the Minds (Pavement), Detroit’s Hinge could be a force to be reckoned with. The band has everything the mainstream alternative listener could want: Green Day speed-pop-punk guitar, vocals that sometimes sound uncannily like Billy Corgan, and the big arena rock sound of Pearl Jam. If Hinge manages to avoid the obvious metaphors (“tried to block me out but the mortar didn’t hold”), and move in the direction of the amusingly ambiguous (“Remember the time I turned the house into a rocketship amidst a town of snivelling misanthropes…”), it wouldn’t be hard to imagine them going places.
