Naked Rhythm – Fatbox – Review

Naked Rhythm

Fatbox (Massacre)
by Scott Hefflon

Huh? Naked Rhythm‘s Fatbox will certainly throw a monkey wrench into the mental gears of most metal lovers who think they know what they’re getting. This is a far stretch from anything that’s ever been released on Massacre. To say it’s alternative rock is to sell it far short. Fatbox has a groove a mile deep running through it, but with humor ditties like “Brown Billy Goat,” sweetly sparse novelties like “Improv Cafe” and group-shout rockers like “Fuck This Place,” that groove never becomes a rut. Naked Rhythm have alternative pop radio written all over them and sound like a fun live band to boot. The bouncy production is due to Phil Varone, drummer of Saigon Kick, who makes them sound like a blend of Extreme, Heretix, and occasionally Faith No More. They’ll be touring Florida during Spring Break with Saigon Kick if you want to hear more of this cross-breed.
