Acrimony – Hymns to the Stone – Review

Acrimony

Hymns to the Stone (Flying)
by Scott Hefflon

Having never heard Welsh doom rock before, I have no useful comparisons to make. The closest I can come is a psychedelic heavy rock band that closely studied the teachings of the Godfathers of acid rock, Black Sabbath. Acrimony sounds more like a modern day Sabbath than the hordes that emphasize B.S. as an influence to sell more records. Acrimony actually has the massive sludge guitar sound and dirty riffs that would make Tony Iommi beam with pride. Lyrics about the cosmos and a Sweet Leafy song called “Herb” are just bonuses in their favor. If this is Welch doom rock, I like it.
