Menswear – Nuisance – Review

Menswear

Nuisance (London)
by Chris Adams

According to the U.K. press, Menswear are part of the “New Wave of New Wave.” Of course, it all sounds conspicuously like the old wave. Nuisance strikes me as just that – an annoying, perky, little teenage-girl of an album, fun to be around for a while – if only she knew when to stop bouncing around and give it a fucking rest.

In all fairness, Menswear’s best moments recall some of the manic excitement of the Buzzcocks or early Jam. At their worst moments, however, it becomes apparent that Duran Duran and Spandau Ballet did have an indelible effect on modern rock.

Ultimately, Nuisance is just superfluous fluff, a soundtrack for those (hopefully few) days you feel like walking around sucking in your cheeks and wearing eyeliner and a skinny tie.
