Semisonic is pure pop with slightly retro dynamics and chord progressions. Production by Paul Fox (10,000 Maniacs, XTC, Sugarcubes) gives Great Divide a sound that is not just full and lush, but almost lavish, a sound you don’t hear much these days. The tunes flow, loop, and double back – smooth and sleek. The lyrics are sweet and charming. Any song on this tuneful disc could be played over the opening credits of a Fox TV sitcom.
