Amy Arena – Review

Amy Arena

I’m gonna catch some shit for this one, but it has to be said. Amy Arena is an uptight, bitchy, self-aggrandizing woman who whines about her cruel life and how men have treated her like shit. You might say that it’s empowering, but she doesn’t make us empathize with her. She just gripes away, leaving me disgusted. Her debut album, Amy Arena, professes from the get go to use “direct language that’s not used in universities.” Y’know, spoken word shouldn’t mean that you just spew out a bunch of words. Amy Arena doesn’t spend time crafting interesting phrases, or emotional wordplay, or anything remotely interesting. She just rambles and bitches about how much men suck and how strong she is for saying so. I’m guessing the reason men treat her like shit so much is because she’s such a bitch. I’m sick of women castigating men because they have a dick. I’m not 5,000 years old, I didn’t set up the patriarchy. Don’t blame me. Your hating me because some powerful Y-chromosome types manipulate people has only one result: more hate in the world. And it’s not even hate that can be focused and used as power. It’s misdirected hate. She rants about how men don’t understand her, that they have false impressions, preconceived notions about her, and she calls them idiots. But she never tells us who she is. Are we supposed to be mind readers? How can we get to know you if you won’t tell us about yourself? Women like Amy Arena have to realize that respect is a two way street. To receive, you must also give. Okay, I’m done. I’ll never get laid again.
